ANGELCAKES

In October 2008, a cat and her four kittens survived a house fire. She had beautiful fur, gorgeous eyes, and a sweet nature—but after the fire, no one claimed her or the kittens as theirs. Lucky for this kitty, she was rescued by Claire, one of the co-founders of Almost Home Foundation. Claire found her a foster home and after that, she was on the road to recovery.

Her foster mom named her Angelcakes, “Angel” for short. When Angel first arrived at her foster home, she was very shy, very scared, and very jumpy. She spent most of every day hiding under the bed, only coming out to eat and use the litter box. She wouldn’t come by anyone, and she wouldn’t play. This went on for the first few days of her stay. Slowly—with lots of tender love and care!—Angel came out of her shell. She took over the top of the bed, where she now spends most of her time. She sleeps cuddled up next to her foster mom almost every night. She became affectionate and loving. She also became fascinated with pens, which are her favorite toy, and she stopped feeling so afraid of everyone. She’s still shy with new people, and it still takes awhile to gain her trust, but it’s worth the wait! Her loyal affection is incomparable.

As Angel’s personality came out more and her love was returned, her confidence grew. Angel doesn’t hide under the bed anymore, and she walks around the house like she owns it now! There are other cats in Angel’s foster home, and she gets along with all but one of them. It turns out that Angel is a rather dominant cat. She simply loves attention, and she doesn’t like to share that attention. One of the other cats in her foster home is also dominant, and this cat is her foster mom’s forever cat. As the two hiss at each other and occasionally squabble, Angel really needs to find her forever home.

Angel is between 1-2 years old. She is a beautiful tortoiseshell with gorgeous eyes. She loves, loves, loves to be petted. She is a big eater, and is not picky with her food. Come feeding time, she meows and jumps until her food bowl is in front of her. She loves sleeping on beds. She gets along with most cats, but prefers to play by herself or with a human. She does fine with cats that are not dominant, but we think she would be the absolute happiest in a single-cat home. She is litter-box trained (has never had an accident!), has had all of her shots, and has been spayed. Like her, the four kittens (named Mystery, Enigma, Pumpkin, and Pie) are being cared for by foster families through Almost Home Foundation.

Angel’s escape from the fire left her with burned and damaged paw pads on all four paws. She has difficulty walking on tile; she often slips and slides everywhere if the floor is tiled. Luckily, her foster home is mostly carpeted. A home with mostly hardwood or tiled floors would be difficult for her. Angel eats a special diet to help with her paw pads. Angel has not been exposed to dogs or children, so her ability to get along with either is unknown.

Interested in this beautiful girl yet? If so, please email her foster mom at katylynne@prodigy.net or stop by one of the adoption shows. Angel is usually at the Saturday shows held at the Petsmart in Bloomingdale.
