As
Powder is a very special cat, she needs a very special forever home.
Many people must be wondering why this beautiful, white, Persian
princess hasn’t been adopted after having been on the website for over
a year. This update is for all the wonderful people who were
interested in adopted her during the time she had a relapse and needed
extensive medical treatment.
Powder
is approximately 2-1/2 years old. She has a Stage 3 heart murmur
which can be controlled with medication. She was progressing very
well. Then all of a sudden, in January 2008, Powder stopped
eating, lost a lot of weight, got weaker and weaker and almost died.
She was rushed to emergency care where it was discovered that in
addition to her heart murmur, she had severe liver failure due to
allergic reactions to food containing grains and seeds, such as wheat,
gluten, corn, flax, etc. Since January, Powder has been medicated
extensively to help build up her liver and any other organs that may
have been damaged. This will probably continue for a few more
months and will, hopefully, restore her liver so she will be able to
live a normal life. The vet also doubled her heart medication.
Her diet was changed to non-grain foods. Currently, she is
improving each month. She eats well, weighs almost seven pounds,
and continues to play with her toys and other cats. If you saw
her, you wouldn’t know anything was wrong with her.
Currently, she is being treated by a Holistic vet who is confident that
she will get better. Each month, her medications are decreased and
she is given different medical treatments. She will always have to
take her heart medication, Atenolol, which costs about $70 a month now
that the amount has been doubled; however, this amount may be able to be
decreased in time.
Powder is one-of-a-kind. Not only is she beautiful, she has a
wonderful personality. She loves people and likes to mingle with
party guests. She also likes to curl up with stuffed animals so
she looks like them. She is amazing at taking her medications.
She doesn’t like taking them, but couldn’t be more cooperative.
Powder can be adopted now, but the person adopting her must be prepared
to give her medications approximately four times a day, currently.
If all goes well, her medications will be decreased each month
until the only one left will be her heart medication which has to be
given twice a day. This also might be able to be decreased in
time.
Powder has been with her foster parents for over a year now. She
is perfect in every way as far as her looks and personality.
Whoever the lucky person is that adopts Powder will not be disappointed.
Every dollar that is spent on her medication will never equal all the
love and companionship this beautiful Persian princess will give in
return. Every day of her life is worth saving.
