Powder
was rescued from a high-kill shelter. In a sense, her life has
already been saved.
When
she was brought to her foster home, she had highly contagious,
chronic, infections in her eyes and ears. Her beautiful, white,
squished face had turned black from all the mucous running out of her
eyes. The back of her ears were inflamed and practically bald.
If that wasn't bad enough, she was diagnosed with a Stage 3 heart
murmur which will require further medical testing. A heart
murmur in a Persian is a very serious condition. Her prognosis
will not be known until she has an ultrasound. This is a
specialized test that can cost a few hundred dollars.
Because
of her contagious infections, Powder had to be separated from other
cats and had to have antibiotic ointments put into her ears and eyes
twice a day for ten days. Despite all this medication, she
always came running to greet you and was anxious for attention.
Within
a week, she started to recover. She was able to open her eyes,
her ears started to grow hair again, her coat became soft, and she
started to gain weight. Unfortunately, her eyes still bear the
scars of her infection and have a black ring around them which may
disappear later. Her eyes need to be wiped two or three times a
day.
Powder
is about 3-1/2 years old, extremely friendly and loves to be stroked.
When she wants your attention, she puts up her front paw or else
touches your leg very lightly. She is a little nervous about
being picked up, but she will probably get over this when she lives in
her forever home. She is litter trained and sharpens her claws
on scratching posts.
She
was named "Powder" because of her beautiful, white, soft,
fur which resembled baby powder. Unlike most Persians, Powder's
fur maintains itself most of the time. She only needs to be
brushed occasionally.
Please
find it in your heart to help with Powder's specialized heart test and
medications which she may have to take the rest of her life, depending
on her test results. She will be forever grateful!
Please
make it possible for the beautiful princess to return to her throne!
