SPECIAL NEEDS:    Stage 3 Heart Murmur Controlled With Medication

As Powder is a very special cat, she needs a very special forever home.

Powder is a beautiful, white, Persian approximately 1-1/2 years old.   She was rescued from a high-kill shelter and has gone from rags to riches.  When she was brought to her foster home, she had highly contagious, chronic, infections in her eyes and ears.  Her poor, squished face had turned black from the mucous running out of her eyes.  Her ears were inflamed and practically bald.  She had to have antibiotic ointments put into her ears and eyes twice a day for ten days.  If that wasn’t bad enough, she was also diagnosed with a Stage 3 heart murmur.  Despite all this medication, she always came running to greet you and was anxious for attention.  Her eyes have improved considerably, but need to be wiped two or three times a day.

Powder recently had an ultrasound heart test which showed she has a thickening of one of her heart valves.  This can be controlled by giving her medication twice a day.  The liquid medication, Atenolol, can be mixed with her moist food in the morning and evening.  It costs approximately $40 a month or $1.25 a day.

Powder is very sweet and friendly.  She loves to be with other cats.   She hasn’t been exposed to dogs but would probably be all right with them.  When she wants your attention, she puts up her front paw or touches your leg very lightly.  She is a little nervous about being picked up, but will probably get over this when she lives in her forever home.

She was named “Powder” because of her beautiful, white, soft, fur that resembled baby powder.  Unlike most Persians, Powder’s fur maintains itself most of the time.  She only needs brushing occasionally even though she loves to be brushed.
