It’s not a hamster! It’s Mazie! Mazie is
approximately six years old and is an absolutely beautiful, purebred, calico
Persian. She is very big and
requires a lot of brushing to keep her coat shiny and prevent matting. She was rescued from a high-kill shelter.
The fur on her back had been brushed, but the fur on her stomach was
extremely matted and had interwoven in her skin which was obviously hurting her.
Her foster parents have only had her for one week and have been trying to
remove the knots on her stomach. The
progress is slow as they do a little each night, but they are making progress.
Mazie seems to be in fairly good shape except for a bad case of dandruff which
can be controlled by putting oil in her moist food.
Currently, she is not too happy as she is sharing a room with a male Persian who
keeps chasing her (we can’t blame him). She
gets brushed by her foster dad while he watches TV and she purrs loudly. Because she is new to her surroundings and her male roommate, she needs
to be socialized a little more. Each
day she gets friendlier. Sometimes,
she plays with her ball and mouse. She
likes to be tickled under her chin and on top of her nose (if you can find it).
Mazie needs her fur brushed regularly in order to keep it shiny and prevent
knots. This magnificent-looking cat
will be a great companion once she gets used to the environment and people in
her forever home.
