Inky doesn't give her love easily--which is part of what makes her such a rewarding cat to have. Her story is heartbreaking. First, she was a pregnant stray until somebody captured her. Then, the family that adopted her strayed her and her kitten back to the outdoors, in the middle of the winter! She was captured a second time and sent to a high-kill shelter, where she spent weeks all alone in a cage. If Almost Home volunteers hadn't rescued her, Inky would have been euthanized due to her black fur and scared personality.
Given this background, it's no wonder that Inky is a hider and fearful of new things. It took months to bring her out of her shell, but she has turned out to be a sweet and loving cat. She is calm and doesn't like being picked up. She wants to love you--you can see it in her eyes!--but she needs lots of reassurance and patience first. It takes time but it is time well spent, and Inky will love you for it.
Recently, we discovered something important about Inky: she wants to be an only cat. She gets along with passive cats but not aggressive ones. She is so much happier without other cats around, so she has a room of her own at her foster home. She would love to be an only cat in her forever home.
Inky is such a special girl and deserves a wonderful forever home. She is 1 year old (estimated DOB: January 2008), microchipped, spayed, litterbox trained, and has her vaccinations. She probably would not do well with dogs or young children. If you're interested in adopting Inky, you can contact her foster family at
