Ripley's early life was pretty tough. He was
strayed outdoors as a kitten, and then animal control captured him and took him
to a high-kill shelter. He was kept in a cage there for three weeks straight. If
it wasn't for his microchip, they would have euthanized him. Almost Home
Foundation rescued Ripley from the shelter and found him a foster home right
after Christmas.
At first, Ripley was afraid of everyone and spent most of his time hiding. His
fear of people has now subsided and he rarely hides anymore. He still feels shy
sometimes, but he's much more comfortable and trusting of people than he was
before.
Despite his early experiences as a stray and at the high-kill shelter, Ripley is
extremely calm and gentle. His mild personality is his best quality. Even when
he's afraid, he will let people hold and pet him. He has never bitten or
scratched anyone in his foster home, cat or human. He is also quiet as a mouse,
unless he's purring! Ripley can purr up quite a storm. He loves being petted and
scratched under the chin, and he does enjoy the occasional belly rub—as long
as he gives you the go-ahead first. He also has the softest fur ever; you have
to feel it to believe it! Ripley isn’t particularly playful, but we’ve
caught him playing by himself a few times, and he does like to play with toy
mice.
Ripley enjoys being with other cats. He lives in a home with many other cats,
and every now and then he’ll curl up with one of them. He hasn’t been
exposed to dogs or children, so we don’t know how he feels about either. He is
about 5 months old and is litter-box trained and microchipped. If you’re
