The peace and quietness of an early Sunday morning
was rudely interrupted when a couple witnessed a coyote attacking
a small, black and white Jack Russell Terrier that had been
left outside, unsupervised. The wild animal looked at the
pet as an easy meal and tore into its back, ripping the flesh,
exposing muscles. Most likely it would have succeeded in killing
the dog, had it not been for the couple's interference. They
chased the coyote away and tended to the Jack Russell, but
fast realized that he needed medical attention. So they brought
him to a local pet store, seeking help. One of the employees
drove the suffering dog to an Emergency Animal Hospital. A
quick call was made to Almost Home to see if we would help
this poor, injured dog. The answer of course was yes; this
brave canine that beat the odds of surviving a coyote attack
deserved a chance to live and his new name was going to be
Little Champ. The small dog underwent surgery to fix the torn
muscles and skin. The operation was successful and once it
was established that he was well enough to leave the hospital,
he got to go to a foster home where he gets all the post-op
care he needs. Little Champ has a long recovery ahead of him,
but he has the spirit of a fighter and, once healed, will
look forward to finding his new, forever home.
