I got rescued from a kill shelter just before the 4th of July...
So may I introduce
myself? My name is Freedom.
Animal Control found me running at large in Southern Illinois, but just before my 7 days
holding period was up I got rescued by Almost Home Foundation. Now in a foster home, I am
finally safe. I am a one-year old Boxer/Shepherd mix, weigh about 55 pounds and have a
bobbed tail. My foster mom thinks that my mom was a purebred Boxer, and when she had
puppies the owners had our tails cut and dewclaws removed, thinking we were purebreds.
But then I started looking more like a mix. Maybe there was a Shepherd involved? My snout
is not as short as a Boxer's, but my fur is more like that of a Shepherd.
Not too long ago I had puppies and that made me lose some fur and a lot of weight. No
problem, I am not a picky eater. I love all food and treats and will regain it fast. My
fur is starting to grow in too, and I am sure by wintertime it will be nice and thick
once again.
I may not look like a true Boxer, but I do play just like one. I use my front legs and
paws a lot. When I play with my toys I pounce on them and swat them as if I were a cat. I
also use them to catch things you throw to me. Well, I try to. I am super affectionate
and love people and dogs. However, I am still learning to get along with cats. If you let me, I
will shower you with kisses, but I don't slobber like some Boxers do. I am very smart, a
quick learner, housebroken and I don't even need to be crated. You can hear my deep bark
only when someone approaches the house. Overall, I am the perfect combination of
dogbreeds. A loving companion for the whole family, playful and energetic outside, calm
and well behaved inside. I can be an only dog, or become sister to one that already lives
with you.
Come and meet me at the next adoption show. No need to first wash your face, I will glady
do that for you.
