Almost Home Foundation

P.O. Box 308   Elk Grove Village, IL 60009-0308     (630)582-3738

Bow wow my name is Houston

I am an adorable long haired Dachshund. At the moment though, I have short hair. When I arrived at Almost Home Foundation, I was pretty smelly, even after four baths! So, the groomer gave me a new haircut. My foster mom says it looks cute on me.

I had a rough life before I was rescued and I am a little timid and skittish. I am learning that the world is not such a scary place. I am getting pretty brave with my foster mom and sisters. At home, when company comes, I like to hide under the big bed or in mom’s closet where I have a little nest of blankets. I am particularly fearful of men. When I go on walks, outside noises like airplanes and sometimes cars make me afraid and then I want to go right back home!

I love to play with stuffed toys and have learned if I bring the toy back to mom she will throw it again! I get really excited and happy when we play fetch. Another thing I like to do is chew on a rawhide roll. Mom is very surprised that I like these so much because I had almost half of my teeth pulled when I went my foster home. The vet was able to leave me with most of my important chomping teeth I guess!

I have free run of the house now with my foster sisters, even when mom is not home! At first I stayed in a crate because I needed to work on some of my manners and house breaking, but now I can even sleep in bed with everyone at night if I want to.

I have been told that I am near seven years old. Mom couldn’t believe it because I do seem as frisky as a puppy most of the time. I don’t really know my age, so I don’t care. I only know I love to play. And eat. And I am very curious about all the different things out in the world.

When you meet me, I am so shy; you may not be able to imagine me as I truly am once I get comfortable. Don’t judge a book by its cover! I have a huge heart full of love. I am just looking for the right person to have a heart full of love for me! Would you be my forever mom?
