A lot of our dogs simply come to us as strays,
found running at large or abandoned by their uncaring owners.
Not so in this girl's case.
In the summer of 2004, in a town in Kentucky, Nelly was found
as a 4 week old puppy, dumped behind a vending machine. She
was taken home and became part of a family with two other
dogs, cats and kids. The adorable puppy grew up into a beautiful
big, blonde girl, got spayed and received shots regularly.
Everything in her life seemed good, she was happy. There was
a recliner for each of the three dogs on the family's front
porch where they liked to sleep when not playing with the
kids. If this were a fairy tale, we would continue with: and
they lived happily ever after...
But unfortuntely, this is real life, and sometimes bad things
happen to good people (and good dogs)- the family got evicted
from their home. They couldn't keep the dogs either, so they
took them to the local shelter which is one of the ones that
gets so many animals, they have to put some of them down.
But the shelter employees sent out e-mails and the three dogs
went to other, no-kill rescues up North. Poor dogs! First
they lost their family and home, then their lifelong dog companions,
but at least they are alive.
Nelly is now looking for a new home in the Northwest suburbs.
Her owners were caring enough to tell us about her so we can
share the info with her future family. She is a great dog.
Hopefully this time around she will find her forever home,
maybe even with a recliner on the front porch for her to lay
on.
