Bow wow my name is Oscar

Hi, My name is Oscar and I am a small 26 lb Australian Cattle Hound mix.  I am loyal and sweet but very timid.  My foster family is very proud of me because I have never had an accident in the house and I have never chewed on anything except my rawhide bone. I stay in my crate during the day and at night I sleep on a doggie bed in my foster parent’s bedroom.  Running and going for walks are some of my favorite things to do.  Some days I’m very good at walking on a leash and other days I pull a lot but I’m really trying to get better.  My foster family has a Beagle named Boomer.  At first I was a little unsure of Boomer, but now he’s like my big brother and we run around and wrestle.  He’s teaching me to use my nose and I help him chase rabbits and squirrels in the yard.

I have NO food aggressions.  If someone is at the door I will bark otherwise I’m pretty quiet (Boomer is much louder than me).  I also have a foster brother and sister that are both in high school.  One day they had friends over for a visit and I got so excited that I ran out of the door.  Luckily two of the friends were on the Glenbard North track team and they helped me find my way home.  I don’t do that anymore although sometimes I need a reminder to sit away from the door when someone leaves  When I’m in the backyard, they  throw balls or Frisbees to me but I don’t yet know what I'm suppose to do.  I am very fast and agile (just ask those teenagers who had to chase me) and would probably do great with agility training.  Since I’m a dog, I can’t tell you about my past but I do get nervous around loud noises like motorcycles and lawnmowers (although music and vacuum cleaners don’t bother me).  If it thunders, I hide under a bed.  If I see a camera, I put my ears back and hide.

I am unsure around new dogs so I sometimes I bark at them.  My foster family thinks that I have low self esteem so they are trying to build up my confidence and I am getting braver.  I have been in foster care for a while and keep getting overlooked at the adoption shows. I think one reason is that I don't like to be there; these events stress me out so I usually try to hide behind my foster mom.  I know my foster family loves me very much but I really want a home of my very own.  Please stop by and see me at the next adoption show.
