Hi I’m Tempe, not sure why they call me that as I’m originally from Kentucky, but I’ll answer to anything if you have a treat in your hand! I am a VERY handsome young (1-2 yrs) southern gentleman, much smaller than a lab (medium height, only 45#). No one can quite decide my breed background, but definitely some hound and retriever in there, makes me such a unique looking dog that I spark conversations about this where ever I go! My fur is a beautiful reddish brown and my teeth are sparking white and you can see them often when I’m smiling!
I have no idea why my old family would give me up because they obviously spent some time on training me. I am good on a leash and don’t pull like other dogs my size, take treats and food nicely from the SIT command, jump into the car without hesitation. I am still shy to come when called and would benefit from an obedience class or a family that would work on trust with me. I am housetrained, don’t jump up on people and don’t lift my leg inside to mark now that I am neutered and in a safe environment. My foster sister has taught me the joy of playing tug of war and other doggie games with toys.
I love to play with dogs, and cats are interesting to look at, but I don’t try to scare them or anything. I am SO not an “alpha” dog, and am happy to be bossed around by my “alpha” sister or humans! Kids are great to play with and I’m very gentle with the littlest ones. My ideal home would have a fenced in backyard so I can run and just hang out with the wildlife without bothering the neighbors because I don't bark much at all! I am scared of crates and my mom thinks I was forced to spend unwanted time in them but have learned how to sleep in bed quietly all night until you decide to wake up, how much fun is that!?
I’d love to meet you soon and am happy to go home with you whether you have another dog, cat and/or kids, or want me all to yourself (couldn’t blame you for that). I am a little scared at the adoption shows and my mom will bring me to meet you at your house if you can’t wait until the next adoption show! Just email her (she’s always on her computer, I know because I am right at her feet)… My foster family will be very sad to see me go, but will gladly turn me over to the right family to make room for other homeless dogs like me that need a place to lay their head.
