"MAN'S" BEST FRIEND…
MY CONSTANT COMPANION…
THE BEST SECURITY SYSTEM ONE CAN HAVE…
A REALLY INEXPENSIVE THERAPIST…

These are all phrases many people have used to describe a dog – either their own dog or a dog in general. October is ADOPT A DOG MONTH. Adopting a dog is not something to jump into lightly but it is one of the best things you could ever do for yourself.

A - Acknowledge your desire to adopt a dog.

D - Decide to adopt a dog; a deserving dog needs you and you need him/her.

O - Open your heart and home to an adopted dog for life.

P - Prepare your home for your adopted dog. Prepare your adopted dog for your home.

T - Take care of your adopted dog by training and treating them with love and respect.

Over the years, many people have been heard to say "I don't know what I would have done without my dog." Many times this statement was made in response to how their dog helped them significantly make it through something: through a situation of safety; through a situation of life and death; through a situation of physical or emotional health; or through a featured dogreally tough time. Dogs have been humans' best friend, loyal companions, helpmates, running buddies, walking buddies, entertainers, etc… To come home after a tough day and see the smile and wagging tail of a dog who loves you unconditionally and accepts you no matter what, is such a gift. Is this a gift you are ready to give yourself?

There is a dog out there for everyone. Almost Home Foundation is not a breed specific rescue, so we take in all canine breeds. We have large, medium, small and tiny dogs. We rescue dogs at all stages featured dog of life from puppies to seniors. Just because a dog is older, doesn't mean its life is over. As a matter of fact, senior dogs make some of the best companions as all they want is to be around their humans to get love, a warm bed, food, shelter, and a daily walk. Take a look at our available dog page and browse through the 120 – 150 dogs we have available right now. You are bound to find the dog that is just right for you. If you need help finding the right match, our volunteers would be happy to help.featured dog

Recently, one of our volunteers has experienced family illnesses and losses. She has shared that her dogs have helped her through these really tough times in her life. Her dogs have seemed to just know what she needed at the time, whether it was a kiss, a warm snuggle or a gentle tug to get her out of the house for some fresh air and a short walk. That is what it is like when you bring a dog into your heart and home. The "dog" becomes a member of your family, your pack, and its instincts as a pack member kick in. Sometimes, it seems as though the dogs look out for their new pack better than us humans look out for our new pack. That is the capacity for unconditional love and acceptance that a canine seems to offer us even when we can't, don't or are unable to offer it to them.

So, please remember there are many dogs out there that need good loving homes. Are you ready to find your new canine friend and companion? Take a look at the wonderful dogs we have available right now.
