WHERE WILL YOU BE ON SEPTEMBER 18, 2011?

We have an idea that will make your day! You can have a lot of fun, get a good run/walk eventwork out and best of all, you will be helping to make the lives of many animals much better. Come participate in the Almost Home Foundation's "Running for Rescue 5K Certified Race/3K Dog Walk."

See what fun was had at last year’s Run/Walk event and how the animals were helped.  Watch this digital story telling all about it.

WHERE DOES IT COME FROM?
WHERE DOES IT GO TO?

Almost Home Foundation is a registered not-for-profit 501c3 charitable organization dedicated to rescuing stray and abandoned animals. All donations are tax deductible and go directly to the care and welfare of the animals as we are an ALL VOLUNTEER RESCUE. In order for us to rescue and rehabilitate as many animals as possible, we have to raise the financial funds to do so. That is where fundraisers and special event fundraisers come in. AHF puts on the events/fundraisers with an all-volunteer crew too. Fundraisers/Events come in all shapes and sizes! Sometimes our young volunteers sell candy bars to raise money for the animals or put on a special event of their own. It is so wonderful to see the young children getting involved to help the animals. On September 18, we are having our Run/Walk Event which is a larger event. Then on Saturday, December 3, we have our Annual Holiday Dinner/Dance with a Silent Auction which is our largest fundraiser. Please keep that date in mind as more information will be coming soon. Please see our calendar of events page for more information.

Many people wonder where the money goes to and how much it costs to care for the animals. Well, AHF looks for Veterinarians who have a heart and mind towards rescue and who will work with us regarding their fees for service. We look for Quality Vets who are willing to donate some time and service as well. AHF on average has 300 animals (150 cats and 150 dogs) in our care that are available for adoption each week. Each week, animals are adopted and new ones come in. Each animal that comes in gets an exam and all their shots, are spayed/neutered, and receive any other medical care necessary. Many of our animals come in with some type of worms or parasites due to their living conditions before AHF was able to save them. These conditions are easy to treat but they do have a financial cost to them. Cost of services and medications vary depending on the size of the animal, condition of the animals, location of the vet, Vets discounted rate for AHF, etc… However, to give you an idea of where the money goes to, here is a list of average costs for just a few services and medications AHF provides for our animals.

Vet Exam $15; Rabies Vaccine $21; Distemper $13; Bordatella $13; Fecal $10; Urinalysis $10; Feline/FIV Heartworm $22; Heartworm test – canine $20; Canine spay $74, Neuter $56; Feline spay $56, Neuter $35; Canine/Feline Dental $116

These costs don't even include the expenses to feed the animals or when an animal is sick and needs specific treatment and medication. Two other areas of significant costs are dog training/rehab services and surgical services for both dogs and cats when necessary which we have had many of unfortunately. When surgeries and heartworm treatments are necessary, the costs are in the hundreds and thousands sometimes.

featured dogTeddy Bear is a beautiful 5 year old Chocolate Lab that tested positive for heartworm. AHF stepped up and kept Teddy Bear and is paying for the expensive heart worm treatment in order to save his life. Teddy Bear is a gentle, easy going Chocolate Lab that deserves a chance at a happy life. His personality has lived up to his name!

featured catBelle was a very sickly kitten when she was rescued. A severe eye infection was causing her multiple health problems. Various medical treatments didn't help and she eventually needed to have the infected eye removed. Belle has blossomed since her surgery! Without donations, we wouldn't be able to help cats like Belle and dogs like Teddy Bear.

Almost Home Foundation is committed to rescuing as many cats and dogs as we can while providing them with quality medical care and loving environments. As you can see, we need your help and cannot do this alone. We need volunteers and committed financial supporters to make our dream come true: to save more adoptable animals each year. Will you help us make our dream come true this year by participating in the Run/Walk Event on 9/18/11 or by attending our Annual Holiday Party on December 3? Please step up and join us. We look forward to having you aboard.
