Marissa
IS IT PLAYTIME? LET’S GO IN THE BACK YARD AND RUN AROUND!
Hi Everyone. My name is Marissa and I really would like to find a home soon, even if it is just a temporary home. You see, I am in the kennel and I don’t really like it so much. I am getting down and depression isn’t good for dogs. Well, depression hurts humans too, so maybe I would be a good match for someone who needs me as much as I need them.
I am pretty young having been born around July 2009. I have been through basic obedience training and doggie day care but I am still a bit fearful of people. I do get along with dogs, but mostly the bigger ones. I can play for hours in a fenced in yard which I would rather do than go for a walk. At the kennel, I play with my toys in my individual kennel and I keep it clean – no accidents from this girl.
The AHF volunteers don’t know for sure because I can’t tell them, but they think I was mistreated by humans. Well, they are probably right. I warm up to women quicker than men and children are probably not a good match for me. All the running, fast movements, and noise may be too much for me since I am already fearful.
Since I am fearful, it is important to take it slow with me. Spend some time with me and someone I already know and trust. Feed me treats, ask me to follow some basic commands and then provide a treat as a reward to me. That will help you earn some trust with me.
The trainers at Bark Avenue know me pretty well. They will want to talk with you and show you how well behaved and smart of a dog that I am. Then you can ask them any questions that you might have. Something else that you might want to know is that I ride well in a car.
So if you want to take me somewhere, I am ready to go. If you are interested in meeting me, please send an email to dogs@almosthomefoundation.org or call 847-891-1599.
