Spay Day 2010
Spay Neuter!

4,000,000 cats & dogs--about 1 every 8 seconds--
are put down in U.S. shelters each year.

A comparison of human and pet population growth rates in the US results in sobering statistics.  The human birth rate is 10,000 per day; however 2,917 puppies and kittens are born every hour.  Thus, for there to be no more homeless pets, every person in the country would have to adopt at least seven puppies or kittens.

Almost Home Foundation joined with The Humane Society of the United States for their first Spay Day! This event was an educational one to inform children and adults of the pet overpopulation and answer to this problem. It's simple - Spay and Neuter!

AHF provided coloring books and games for children to learn the need for spay/neuter. Brochures and contact information was provided to the public. Our knowledgable and passionate volunteers were available to spread the word and help with quesitons. And Spay Day 2010 T-shirts were sold for all! Many of our adopted pets participated in the HSUS photo contest, too!

Our ultimate hope is that there would not be a need for pet rescues in the US - that pet owners would take responsibility to address the overpopulation pet problem. The only way this can happen is for pet owners to Spay/Neuter their pets.

AHF goal is to have a programs to help with Low Cost Spay/Neuter programs. Since we are a rescue and not a shelter, we currently do not have a physical building or veterinarian staff. We hope that we can obtains grants and donations to significantly fund this program.

Almost Home Foundation has raised:
$977.00  – from Votes
$231.80  – from the General Fund
$1,208.80 – Total

Plus donation jar/t-shirt sales $ 186.78

Also, the HSUS quoted AHF Feline Director Deanne Blenkle in their "Friends in the Field" article   http://www.humanesociety.org/about/friends_in_the_field.html

This is a GREAT start for our new Spay/Neuter program!
